"All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth." — Hebrews 11:13
Hebrews 11:13 presents a humbling and profound truth: true faith often looks beyond this life. The patriarchs—Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and others—trusted God's promises even though they never saw them fulfilled in their lifetimes. They lived and died in faith, believing God would keep His Word, even if the ultimate fulfillment came after their time.
This verse challenges our often short-sighted view of faith. We want immediate answers, quick results, and visible rewards. But biblical faith is not rooted in what we can touch or see—it’s anchored in God's eternal purposes. The faithful of old recognized they were merely pilgrims passing through this world. Their true home was in heaven, and their lives reflected that perspective.
As believers today, we are called to adopt the same mindset. Our faith should not be defined by earthly outcomes but by our confidence in the promises of God. When life doesn’t turn out as expected, we can remain steadfast, knowing our hope lies not in this world but in the one to come.
