Fixing Our Eyes on Jesus
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." — Hebrews 12:1-2
The Christian life is not a leisurely walk—it is a race. And like all races, it requires endurance, focus, and freedom from unnecessary burdens. Hebrews 12:1-2 calls believers to lay aside every weight and sin that slows us down and to run with perseverance the course God has set for us. We are not alone in this race. We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses—men and women of faith who have gone before us, cheering us on by their example.
But our ultimate focus must be on Jesus. He is the pioneer who blazed the trail and the perfecter who brings our faith to completion. Jesus endured the cross—not because it was easy, but because of the joy that lay ahead: our redemption and His glory. He is now seated in victory at the right hand of God.
Keep your eyes on Him. Whatever hardship you face, remember—He ran before you, and He reigns above you.
