Our Compassionate High Priest
“For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” —Hebrews 2:17–18
In these verses, the writer of Hebrews reveals a profound truth: Jesus, the eternal Son of God, took on full humanity so He could truly represent us before the Father. He didn't merely appear human—He became human in every way. Why? So He could be our merciful and faithful High Priest, both identifying with our weaknesses and interceding for our sins.
This isn’t a distant Savior who watches us struggle from afar. This is a Savior who entered our suffering, endured temptation, and overcame sin. His suffering wasn't meaningless; it equipped Him to understand ours. Because He endured temptation, He is able—fully qualified and deeply compassionate—to help us in ours.
When you feel overwhelmed, remember: Jesus knows. He has walked the path of human pain and temptation. And because of that, He stands ready to help you in your darkest hour, not with condemnation, but with grace and power.
