Things God Hates
There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. – Proverbs 6:16-19
The question that needs to be answered is this; does God hate? According to this passage He does. Each item in this list represents a violation of godly character and a disruption to harmonious living. Haughty eyes reflect pride, a lying tongue opposes truth, hands that shed innocent blood go against the sanctity of life, a heart devising wicked schemes undermines integrity, feet quick to rush into evil denote a lack of moral restraint, a false witness who pours out lies corrupts justice, and one who stirs up conflict destroys community unity.
This scripture challenges us to cultivate virtues that contrast these detestable acts. We are called to humility, truthfulness, respect for life, integrity, moral discipline, honesty, and peace-making. These virtues are not just moral ideals; they are reflections of God's character and the blueprint for a life that pleases Him.
As we ponder this Proverb, let it be a mirror to our souls. We must strive to reject the behaviors God hates and to embrace the virtues He cherishes. In doing so, we align ourselves more closely with His will, contributing positively to our spiritual growth and the well-being of our community.
