Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. — Exodus 4:2
Moses stood before God at the burning bush, overwhelmed by the task he was being called to. God had chosen him to confront Pharaoh and lead Israel out of slavery—but Moses felt inadequate, fearful, and uncertain. In that moment, God asked a simple question: “What is that in your hand?”
Moses answered, “A staff.” Just a shepherd’s tool. Ordinary. Common. But in the hands of God, it would part seas, bring water from rocks, and become a symbol of divine power.
God often begins with what we already have. We may think what we possess—our skills, time, resources, or experience—is too small or too ordinary to matter. But God asks, “What’s in your hand?” He doesn’t need you to be extraordinary—He wants your availability, not your perfection.
When surrendered to Him, even the most humble tools can become instruments of miracles.
So, what’s in your hand today? It might be a talent, a task, or an opportunity. Don’t underestimate it. Offer it to God, and watch Him use it for His glory.
Prayer Points:
Lord, help me see the value of what You’ve already placed in my hand.
Teach me to surrender my skills and resources fully to You.
Use my ordinary life for Your extraordinary purposes.
