Who Do You Say I Am?
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” — Matthew 16:15-16
This poignant moment between Jesus and His disciples pierces to the core of every believer’s heart. Jesus asks a question that transcends time and circumstance, reaching out to each of us today: “Who do you say I am?” It's a personal inquiry, demanding a personal response.
Peter's declaration, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God,” is not just a statement of recognition but of relationship and revelation. It reflects a deep-seated belief in Jesus' identity and mission, acknowledging His divine authority and anointed purpose.
In our lives, this question from Jesus calls for more than intellectual assent; it demands a transformation of how we live. Acknowledging Jesus as the Messiah means aligning our actions, hopes, and desires with His will. It compels us to reflect His love and grace in our everyday interactions. When we declare Jesus as Lord, it should redefine our priorities, making His mission our mission—to seek and save the lost, to love the least and the last, and to live out the Gospel in every corner of our lives.
Today, let’s re-examine our answer to Jesus' question. Is it reflected in our priorities, in our relationships, in our daily struggles and successes? Let Peter’s declaration be our continual proclamation, not just in words but in action. For in recognizing Jesus as the Messiah, we find our purpose and our path.
